Sierra Club wants your support for the MD Bottle Bill
What you can do!
(1)Write to your state legislators to tell them that Maryland needs a Bottle Bill to prevent litter and plastic pollution! Here's a link to the Fact Sheet on the bill. Check to see whether your legislators are cosponsors (cosponsors are listed at the top of the linked sheet). If they're cosponsors, thank them! If they aren't cosponsors, ask them to cosponsor the bill.
(2) Send us your photos of beverage container litter from across the state! We're trying to assemble a collage of photos of beverage container litter for the hearings. Please send your best photos to:mdbottlebill@mdsierra.org with the Subject Line; Photos from [Place/River Name] Photos of people collecting litter and wildlife coping with litter are welcome.
(3) Help us collect support from restaurants across the state!
Next week we'll be organizing volunteers to recruit restaurants to a sign-on letter in support of the Bottle Bill, starting with your favorite restaurants! If you'd like to help with this important effort, please respond to mdbottlebill@mdsierra.orgwith the Subject Line: Restaurant Recruitment, and mention where you live in the email. We'll send a note out mid-week with the sign-on letter and guidance for how to go about it.
(4) Tell your County and Municipal Leaders (Councils, Executives, Mayors) that you're sick of the litter and it's time to enact a deposit/return program -- the Maryland Bottle Bill! Let us know of any local officials you've convinced at mdbottlebill@mdsirera.org using the Subject Line: Support from [Local Official's Name & Position]
(5) Write a Letter to the Editor in your local newsletter in support of the bill. If you want to fact check anything with the Coalition, we're ready to help.
(6) Share your support for the bill with friends and family on Social Media!
