Black Walnut Collection Tips & Drop Locations announced
Starting on 9/23, Maryland DNR will be accepting black walnuts at two location this year until the State’s maximum quota is met.
Please do not start collecting Black Walnuts until they are ready. Walnuts that have fallen early and are very small, which often occurs during drought conditions will not contain viable seed. Learn how to best collect Black Walnuts so they will produce future trees in this updated fact sheet for 2025.
Drop off locations are:
Frederick County: Gambrill State Park Office; 8602 Gambrill Park Road, Frederick, Maryland 21702
Washington County: Soil Conservation District Office; 1260 Maryland Ave, Hagerstown, MD 21740
Please do not drop off Black Walnuts outside the collection window. Signs will be posted at collection site when sufficient walnut capacity has been met.
